This research concerns the linear stability analysis of spiral waves. Leading eigenvalue spectra have been computed for spiral waves for many years, e.g. [1,2], and explain the meandering instability very well. To address core breakup and far-field breakup of spiral waves it is necessary to consider the stability spectrum for waves on large domains. The figure to the right shows such a spiral wave in a reaction-diffusion model. Our computed spectra confirm the absolute spectra predicted by Sandstede and Scheel [4,5]. The results show that point eigenvalues are responsible for both core breakup and far-field breakup of spiral waves. Read more about these results here [3]. |
