Me
I originally come from the town of
Port Talbot
where I lived until I was 18.
(Though I was actually born in the neighbouring town of
Neath in 1961.)
From 1979-1983, I studied mathematics at the
University of Cambridge.
In 1983, I moved to
University of Warwick
to study for a PhD under the supervision of
David Epstein.
I then moved through a series of postdoctoral positions at the
Institute of Advanced Study Princeton,
back to the
University of Warwick,
then to
Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques
at Bures-sur-Yvette, the
University of Melbourne, and the
University of Aberdeen.
My first permanent positition was at
University of Southampton,
where I was based from 1992 until 2007.
On 1st July 2007, I moved back to the
University of Warwick.
During my time in Southampton, I was a guest of various
other institutions, in particular, the Universities of
Zurich,
Auckland,
Melbourne,
Lille,
Toulouse,
Strasbourg,
Bonn and
Dijon,
the
Tokyo Institute of Technology,
the
Centre de Recerca Matematica in Barcelona,
the
Max-Planck Institut in Bonn,
the
Centre Bernoulli in
Lausanne, the
Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut in
Oberwolfach and the
Newton Institute,
Cambridge.
Altogether, my travels have taken me to a number of different
places.
