About:This is a page which will play host to all sorts of sudoku (and other logic puzzle) miscellany. Every week, I publish a 100% original hand-written logic puzzle on my blog in a Friday Puzzles series - an archive of all my work so far can be found here. Puzzles:This is an all-but-impossible puzzle which satisfies Guinness world record criteria. The holder, a Belgian named Vincent Bertrand, solved it (after making a very lucky guess) in 3 minutes and 6 seconds. I decided to write a puzzle which met the same criteria, but is much easier. This has been solved in a significantly faster time than officially clocked - proving my point that trying to successfully standardise sudoku is an exercise in fiendish logical subtlety rivalling the aforementioned puzzle - and thus ultimately that any sort of sudoku record is meaningless. I wrote an article which decribes how to solve a Times Super Fiendish sudoku puzzle. There is an accompanying YouTube video. Championship reports, and press:The following are personal reports on various sudoku championships I've participated in:
After winning the UK championship in 2009: Times article. After winning the UK championship in 2007: Times article and supplement with the puzzles - BBC Hampshire article (including link to BBC Radio Solent interview). Other (very brief!) mentions in The Times: WSC09 - WSC07 - UKSC08 - UKSC06. In response to an academic paper (James Crook) claiming to have "solved sudoku": Times article - Daily Mail article which includes my quote. Andrew Stuart's response is also worth a read. Finally, if final proof were needed of my all-encompassing media presence, my name is mentioned on Wikipedia. |
