Short Curriculum Vitae

Educated at Victoria School (1945-1952), The Grammar School, Wellingborough (1952-1960) and Wadham College Oxford (1960-1966) where I obtained first class honours in Mathematics, The Junior Mathematics Prize, (1963) and a DPhil in Mathematics (1967). From 1966 to 1969 I was a lecturer in Mathematics at Sussex University. Since 1969, I have been on the staff of the University of Warwick where I obtained a PhD in Education (1986). From 1969 to 1980, I was Lecturer in Mathematics with Special Interests in Education in the Mathematics Institute (1969-1980), then a Senior Lecturer and Reader in the Department of Science Education (1980-1994), being awarded a personal chair in 1992. Science Education became part of the Institute of Education in 1994. I retired on health grounds in 1994, remaining as a part-time member of of the Institute of Education where I now choose to be styled as Professor in Mathematical Thinking.
